Beyond which UV robots enter ordinary life, we find ourselves on an increasingly shaky dividing line. Technology-assisted or totally performed activities are on the rise. We can see that this tendency is already on the rise, thanks in part to a labor shortage. We have robot vacuum cleaners in our homes, cafés where robots serve us, surgeons who use cutting-edge technology, operations conducted by nurses or unskilled employees in hospitals that are already being taken over by robots, and examples continue in all industries…
In this context, mobile and autonomous UVC robots for surface disinfection are becoming a common presence in many work environments in Romania, as we begin to understand the importance of proactive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and in the fight against pathogens. Moreover, they are one of the most effective “weapons” against nosocomial infections!
Nosocomial infections, a risk that can be avoided
Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) represent a major complication of medical treatments and care. Not only do they require prolonged hospital stays, but they also cause comorbidities associated with higher costs and, last but not least, increased mortality. Since many of the pathogens and fungi that cause HAI are viable on surfaces for prolonged periods, environmental contamination leads to an increased risk of these infections. To prevent this type of infection and the spread of pathogens through contaminated surfaces, hospital rooms must be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals by qualified personnel. For decontamination in hospitals, cleaning agents and disinfectants approved by technical expert committees are needed. In addition, manual cleaning and disinfection require time and personnel – and due to the lack of time and training, these operations are not always sufficient.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, over 3 million individuals in the European Union get a healthcare-associated illness each year, with roughly 50,000 people dying as a result. Romania is significantly underrepresented in nosocomial infection data. Why? Not because such illnesses do not exist, but because hospitals in our nation do not routinely record them, as stated by Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health.

Experts in the field believe that pathology is greatly underestimated in Romania, based on hospital statistical reports, and therefore increased importance should be given to disinfection procedures in our country. Incorrect cleaning and disinfection processes, choosing the wrong formula of cleaning or disinfectant agents, and not respecting the necessary contact time of the disinfectants can affect the effectiveness of standard approaches. Studies have shown that more than 50% of surfaces can remain untouched by manual cleaning. Secondly, during crisis periods, the supply of disinfectants may be interrupted, as demonstrated in the case of the current COVID-19 pandemic.
UV-C disinfection is the most effective method with CoBOT Ultra – UVC disinfection robot
Manual cleaning and disinfection are services with varied quality since efficacy is heavily dependent on staff and motivation, and assessing the activity necessitates on-site inspection. Notwithstanding best practices suggestions, manual cleaning in medical institutions is dependent on local procedures, cleaning staff training, comprehension, and turnover, as well as monitoring and inspection of their performance.
Due to the deficiencies in routine decontamination of the environment mentioned above, touchless autonomous surface disinfection technologies are currently considered among the safest methods of disinfection. By disrupting the DNA or RNA structure of microorganisms, UV-C irradiation at a wavelength of 254 nm is the most effective in killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and even spores (in decreasing order of efficiency). Disinfection technologies that use UV-C irradiation represent an improvement over standard cleaning and disinfection, reducing the microbial burden in the environment and reducing the potential risk of contracting a serious infection. This has been demonstrated for different pathogens and in different clinical settings, such as ambulances, patient rooms, and operating rooms.
More recently, the new reality of global virus infections requires constant disinfection not only for clinical settings but also for spaces inhabited by a large number of people: schools, indoor common areas, meeting rooms, sports halls, shops, elevators, offices, halls, and restrooms. Since the discovery of the germicidal effects of UV-C light, research has shown the superiority and effectiveness of this method in killing bacteria and viruses.

CoBOT Ultra: the highest power installed on an ultraviolet disinfection robot
Among the devices that use ultraviolet light, disinfection UV robots represent the most efficient category. Thanks to the mobility of the robots, the disinfection time is reduced for impressive effectiveness, without using complementary devices or harmful chemical agents.
CoBOT Ultra, designed and manufactured entirely in Romania by Wolf-e Robotics, can boast to be part of the world’s most powerful UV-C robots! The robot ensures surface and air disinfection in the shortest time, with an efficiency of up to 99.9999% against viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other harmful organic microorganisms in the environment, by breaking down their DNA structure.
The robot has the highest installed power on a disinfection device, which leads to very rapid disinfection cycles, with a 25% higher efficiency compared to usual chemical disinfection methods proven against a range of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses or coronaviruses. CoBOT Ultra operates in short disinfection cycles, without using chemicals. This robot has Philips UV-C sources of 325W, with a wavelength of 253.7nm, a power of 3250W, and a lifespan of 12,000 hours, ensuring compliance and traceability of each disinfection cycle.
Designed and produced in Romania using the best quality components from reputable manufacturers, CoBOT Ultra benefits from a durable stainless steel construction, with a total weight of 65 kilograms. Compared to classical and static UV-C disinfection lamp methods, CoBOT Ultra has safety settings and can be controlled remotely via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth LE, without the need for permanent human presence at the disinfection site. By using it, incorrect exposures can be avoided – both the exposure of workers to aggressive substances used during the classical disinfection process and accidental exposure to radiation of any person in the disinfected room.
The robot moves benefiting from automatic detection of the time required to achieve the disinfection objective, depending on the room in which it operates. According to the safety settings, CoBOT Ultra does not start if it detects the presence of people within its range of action – the function being ensured by four PIR sensors, with 360° coverage and a detection distance of 10m. The dedicated mobile application for operating the robot is pre-installed on the control tablet with the Android operating system and ensures autonomous navigation, through automatic mapping of spaces in real-time.
To convince you of the qualities and efficiency of the CoBOT Ultra robot, all you have to do is request a demo session, with results guaranteed based on certified dosimeters! All Wolf-e Robotics systems, developed and produced entirely in Romania to the highest quality standards, come together with a series of integrated services (microaeroflora analysis, product counseling, service), and interested parties benefit from personalized counseling.
The benefits of surface disinfection with CoBOT Ultra mobile robots
In addition to destroying microorganisms on surfaces, disinfection robots offer advantages through automatic recording of disinfection process parameters, thereby ensuring quality assurance. Therefore, automated disinfection allows for validation of the disinfection process with 100% reproducible and documented results.
It is clear that, when comparing costs to process efficiency, UV-C robot solutions are superior. Robotic disinfection can function without personnel and in a standardized manner, without the need for constant human presence at the disinfection site. In addition, it can avoid worker exposure to aggressive substances used during the traditional disinfection process.
