Almost 800 people attended the National Congress of Surgery, which was held in Sinaia at the beginning of June 2022, after the pandemic’s two hard years. It was a great success in terms of the courses, sessions, and roundtable talks on different surgical subjects with specialists as well as in terms of networking and getting back to the regular format of in-person events, which we have been missing the most lately. As anticipated by Prof. Univ. Dr. Traian Pătrașcu, President of the Romanian Society of Surgery, the new edition of the National Congress of Surgery was a memorable one also due to the location where it took place – in the halls of the International Conference Center “Casino” Sinaia and in the “Enescu” hall of the “Palace” Hotel.
A memorable location – unique atmosphere of elegance and sophistication
The town of Sinaia contains a diverse collection of structures built in a variety of architectural styles. Several of these structures were influenced by both the neo-Romanian-style homes and the Peleş Castle. As a result, the Casino, which was constructed in the same year (1911–1922) as the Ghica villa, the first mansion in the resort that belonged to Dimitrie Ghica, is one of the resort’s most recognizable structures.
Highlights @National Congress of Surgery
The opening ceremony, networking breaks, related events, and festive dinner were perfectly harmonized with the scientific program, which included pre-congress courses, sessions with foreign and Romanian guests, ePOSTER presentations – solved cases through top surgical methods, various case studies, surgical management of different diseases and methods, modern treatment protocols (the complete program can be viewed here).
Certainly, there is room for improvement in Romania. The theme addressed at the National Congress of Surgery is one that we considered of great interest, namely “Advances in Surgical Treatment of Cancer,” and we chose it because this area of general oncology and surgical oncology suffered during the pandemic, for the well-known reasons, therapeutic protocols often could not be respected, there were hospital admission restrictions, and so on, people were often reluctant to go to hospitals because there were many cases of COVID and there was a fear of infection. – Professor Traian Pătrașcu, President of the National Conference of Surgery and President of the Romanian Society of Surgery (interview in “Health Journal” magazine, General Surgery, 2022).
CNC Medical Exhibition & Wolf BOT Robot
The Medical Exhibition organized during the CNC was held from June 8-11, 2022, in the lobby and the Mirror Room of the Sinaia Casino. We also participated, Wolf-e Robotics, a Romanian company specializing in designing and manufacturing devices, smart systems, and mobile robots for disinfection and air and surface filtration throughout the entire congress, and delighted the audience with our range of products, with the star of the event being the Wolf BOT, the autonomous mobile robot that roamed freely in the designated spaces.
In Romania, hospitals lack adequate equipment and medication. Science evolves and new discoveries, both in materials and new procedures in surgery, appear every day, but old surgical techniques and principles should not be forgotten. Unfortunately, I have to say that there is a big difference between what is done in Bucharest and generally in university centers compared to what is done in other cities in Romania. I mean there are doctors and medical teams in Romania who do the same things as in America, Germany, France, Italy, but you see that we don’t find the same high level of therapies everywhere in the country. – Dr. Professor Mircea Pătruț, Vascular Surgery Specialist (interview in “Health Journal” Magazine, General Surgery, 2022).
The range of Wolf-e ROBOTICS devices
As for us, we presented the range of Wolf-e ROBOTICS products, starting from the simplest systems and reaching the most sophisticated – the autonomous UV robot and monitoring in the dedicated platform. The Wolf-e ROBOTICS range includes:
- stand-alone air disinfection devices (which can be used continuously, in the presence of people, in family doctor’s offices, dental offices, physiotherapy rooms, medical clinic hallways or other similar spaces – Aer, Aer 500+, Breez)
- UV germicidal devices placed at the top of rooms (Beam – which are 10 times more effective than mechanical ventilation)
- systems for air disinfection in elevators (Lift)
- non-autonomous mobile robots for air and surface disinfection (CoBOT-Ultra, CoBOT-Lite)
- autonomous mobile robots for air and surface disinfection (Wolf BOT)
- platform for monitoring air quality using sensors that collect information and thus we have real-time monitoring of indoor air quality.
Mobile autonomous and non-autonomous robots for UV-C surface disinfection are becoming a common presence in many workplaces, as people and organizations around the world understand the importance of proactive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and fight pathogens.
Romanian surgery is keeping up with European and international surgery. Surgeon mobility is fantastic, Romanian surgeons are familiar with surgical techniques, and access to information is currently easy. The only difference is access to state-of-the-art medical equipment. Obviously, the results can be seen. However, the progress made in recent years is fabulous, a major paradigm shift has been achieved. We have come to practice personalized medicine, where we do not discuss a pathology, but rather the individual peculiarities of the patient, and currently, we can discuss gene therapy. – Dr. Bogdan Diaconescu, Specialist in General Surgery, member of the Organizing Committee of the National Surgery Conference (interview in “Health Journal“, General Surgery, 2022).
Surface disinfection UV robot, WolfBOT
Wolf BOT is designed and manufactured in Romania, and is already in use in medical facilities. It is a mobile robot with autonomous navigation and the most powerful battery installed on a similar system, with simplified control for the operator through a mobile application. The system can operate in a simple mode, but can also be extended and integrated with advanced systems such as fleet management, building automation, WMS, ERP, MES. Other features of this robot include:
- Control can be done from the application or platform.
- Lamp power: 2000W
- Number of UVC light tubes: 10
- Lifespan: 12,000h
- UVC irradiance: 6800μW/cm2 (@1m)
We bring technological innovations and autonomous and mobile robots, smart systems for surface and air disinfection into everyday reality and offer the most efficient methods for inactivating all pathogens. – Ștefan Toma, co-founder Wolf-e ROBOTICS.
Benefits of surface disinfection UV robot Wolf BOT
In addition to destroying microorganisms on surfaces, disinfection robots offer advantages through the automatic recording of disinfection process parameters, ensuring quality assurance. Therefore, automated disinfection allows for the validation of the disinfection process with 100% reproducible and documented results.
It is very clear that, considering the costs and efficiency of the process, the UV-C robot solution is far superior. Robotic disinfection will operate without personnel and in a standardized manner, without the need for a human presence during disinfection. In addition, it is possible to avoid worker exposure to aggressive substances used during the classic disinfection process.
