How important is indoor air quality?
The air we breathe contains a large number of harmful particles such as bacteria, viruses, and mold. Unfortunately, nature offers us only limited control over the quality of outdoor air. However, thanks to new technologies, we can control and improve the quality of the air inside the spaces where we live or work.
“Indoor air quality” refers to the quality of air inside a home, school, office, medical facility, or other building environment. The potential impact of indoor air quality on human health at the national level is important for several reasons:
- Firstly, because statistics show that we spend about 90% of our time indoors, where concentrations of harmful substances are more difficult to detect.
- Secondly, due to the pandemic, which has shown us that aerosol particles in the air are a primary route of transmission of the SARS CoV 2 virus.
To improve indoor air quality, we can opt for standard ventilation and filtration systems, as well as purification systems that use various methods such as filters made from different materials. Technological advances, however, have brought us revolutionary systems designed not only to purify, sterilize, and disinfect air, but also surfaces. These use ultraviolet light, electromagnetic radiation that is present in sunlight and has germicidal properties.
Scientists have known about the disinfectant properties of ultraviolet light for over 140 years.
Downes and Blunt first discovered the antibacterial effects of UV radiation in 1877. Shortly thereafter, scientists were able to demonstrate that certain wavelengths of UV light could be used to destroy microorganisms. They then found a way to replicate UV wavelengths for the purpose of disinfection. The first UV quartz lamp was invented in 1904, which led to the manufacturing of germicidal lamps that produced UV-C wavelengths (200 nm to 280 nm) with disinfectant properties.
Currently, new UV-C lamps for disinfecting air and surfaces use germicidal ultraviolet light to deactivate the DNA of viruses, bacteria, and fungi, destroying their ability to multiply and cause disease. By using UV-C methods to purify room air, microorganisms essentially lose their ability to reproduce and begin to die.
The UV-C technology promoted by Wolfe Robotics is available in a wide range of formats, depending on the customer’s needs and the location where it will be used. For example, air and surface sterilizing UV lamps and filtration and purification devices can be installed in schools, hospitals, offices, hotels, or restaurants, wherever surface disinfection is a priority. Our range of UV bactericidal devices includes sleek and modern designs to ensure that the equipment fits perfectly in specific indoor environments.
Wolf-e Robotics, a chemical-free system
Being a chemical-free system that uses low-energy bulbs, UV-C technology is ideal for companies looking to limit their environmental impact while also disinfecting their spaces. Systems can be scaled to any building size or budget and have low capital and operating costs. It is also important that UV sterilization devices can be monitored through a dedicated mobile application or web platform.
To support our clients, in addition to high-performance devices, we offer a service that combines air quality management and maintenance of the UV-C sources we provide. The “Disinfected Air as a Service” – disinfected and clean air with UV-C technology – offers complete benefits at the highest quality standards. Thus, a fixed monthly rate subscription provides predictive and corrective maintenance, filter and UV-C source replacement, and guarantees the continuous operation of the devices included in the subscription.
Our “Disinfected Air as a Service” subscription solves both warranty or maintenance problems and the inherent bureaucracy of managing multiple providers. The investment is minimal, and the costs are completely predictable because they are all included in the subscription, without additional expenses. Furthermore, maintenance included in the #DAaaS subscription guarantees uninterrupted operation and uncompromising quality.
The Coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated the importance of air quality and innovative technologies when it comes to keeping people safe, even in the face of some of the most unexpected challenges. Our innovative disinfection solutions help maintain workspaces by acting not only on surfaces but also on the air people breathe – by reducing the level of harmful viruses and bacteria.
The use and integration of UV-C sterilization technology significantly helps to create a safe and healthy work environment.
As people return to work and public spaces become increasingly populated, additional safety measures are vital, and innovation is essential. Wolf-e Robotics continues to support its partners, helping them ensure that workspaces are safe, both for employees and customers!
