Breez, the system that brings UV technology into the 21st century

Air purifiers and disinfection equipment may still be required even when medical cabinet disinfection systems are operating effectively. Almost 99% of infectious transmission, as we have discovered from the COVID-19 epidemic, took place inside. In these situations, adding an extra safeguard can aid in purging polluted air from enclosed / indoor places.

Whether it is about medical facilities or simply office spaces, classrooms, commercial spaces or HORECA – all are high traffic areas with people who may suffer from various conditions and may have a less effective immune system – hence, requiring additional protective measures!

Pathogens and fungi that cause nosocomial infections pose a risk that must be taken into account in such rooms and spaces. In a 2020 report on Antibiotic Consumption, Microbial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections (Nosocomial) in Romania, it is very clear that healthcare-associated infections represent the most visible area of microbial resistance and therefore an important factor to consider regarding patient health.

And in light of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and the emergence of a new virus variant, the role that proper ventilation plays in maintaining indoor spaces safe is essential – even mentioned by the World Health Organization!

The idea of using additional air purification devices is not new in the healthcare field. As early as 2003, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States) recommended the use of portable filters in certain high-risk areas such as hospitals and medical offices. However, science has evolved: while HEPA air purifiers are sufficient to filter air, those that also have UV-C technology can destroy pathogens, making indoor air the safest for patients and staff.

So let’s get to the point and talk about the reasons why you should consider Breez, the smart air purification and disinfection system for your medical office or space! It uses both UV-C light disinfection and HEPA filtration to ensure continuous air purification. Designed and manufactured in Romania, using the best quality components, it is ideal for doctors, dentists, therapists or anyone in the healthcare field concerned with improving air quality in their work environment, to keep patients and staff safe.

 

Reason #1: Breez is efficient

When viruses, spores, and bacteria develop in the surrounding area, air purifiers and disinfectant devices are exactly what is needed to reduce viral load and make the air breathable. Examination rooms, treatment rooms, and waiting rooms each have their specific dangers. In examination and treatment rooms, where space is often limited, medical staff work in close proximity to the patient. In waiting rooms, where space is occupied by several people, each suffering from specific conditions, infectious pathogens spread in droplets so small that they remain in the air and circulate for hours. Also, in physiotherapy and rehabilitation rooms, patients move and exert themselves, contributing to the spread of harmful particles. In all these cases, the personnel – doctors, nurses, and caregivers – are actually the ones who present the greatest risk of exposure, due to the long hours they spend at work.

To reduce pathogens, continuous air exchange and refreshment are necessary. Regular window opening, along with classic disinfection measures, can eliminate about half of the pathogens in a room – which is far from an effective disinfection solution. To achieve over 90% reduction of pathogens, a simplistic disinfection method is not always possible, especially in medical and related facilities.

This is where Breez comes in – a smart air disinfection system that provides one of the most effective methods of pathogen inactivation. It ensures filtering a volume of air of 182.5 cubic meters per hour: in other words, it filters all the air in a 30 square meter room, with a volume of 75 cubic meters, in just 25 minutes. The 254 nm UV-C wavelength, together with the HEPA filter, can “catch” 99.99% of the hardest to catch particles. Breez is equipped with an additional M5 class filter that prevents lamp contamination and ensures additional air purification.

A separate display provides information on air quality, and Breez can even “maintain” the atmosphere by offering various modes of ambient light and animations. The device can make multiple air changes per hour, continuously reducing the pathogen load. After the air passes through the filters, the UV-C light incorporated in the Breez air purifier is the one that destroys the cellular walls of the smallest pathogens, irreparably damaging viral, bacterial or spore cells. As a result, the coronavirus, flu, measles, tuberculosis, and other pathogens become harmless, being destroyed.

 

Reason #2: Minimalist and discreet design

Besides from being incredibly successful at cleaning the air that goes through it, the Breez system may be hidden in plain sight. Its minimalist design helps it blend seamlessly into any interior space, while its compact size allows for multiple mounting options: on a wall or standalone. In the case of the latter, it is easy to move, and its controls are simple, allowing for both physical and wireless control through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This UVC disinfection device also has a mobile app for control, which provides both control of the ambient LED lighting and fan speed.

 

Reason #3: It’s safe and requires minimal maintenance.

At the heart of the Breez air purifier and disinfectant device are electronic components from reputable manufacturers (Philips) that operate with low energy consumption. In terms of safety, Breez is designed for enclosed spaces frequented by multiple people and can operate in their presence without endangering them. Moving on to maintenance, let’s identify any tedious tasks that may be required to keep the Breez system running. Firstly, it purifies the air without the need for chemicals (which are often harmful to humans over time!). The UV light bulbs have a long lifespan and do not generate ozone.

Of course, the filters need to be replaced, but replacement is reduced when the M5 Class pre-filter not only prevents the UV lamps from getting dirty (ensuring their extended lifespan) but also captures larger particles. This keeps the HEPA filter efficient for a longer period and requires less frequent replacement. Last but not least, the Breez system manufacturer, Wolfe-E, provides not only the consumables necessary for the system’s proper operation but also “Disinfected Air as a Service” subscription services, which address both warranty and maintenance issues.

 

Reason no. 4: Breez is built to last

The smart air purification and disinfection system Breez has a sturdy metal casing that is resistant to vandalism and suitable for the healthcare industry, and is easy to clean. Moreover, it can be ordered in six different colors to match the room where it operates. As previously mentioned, the UV lamps that ensure its operation (1, 2, or 3) have a long lifespan of 9,000 hours. And to avoid any surprises, the device benefits from automatic monitoring of the UV-C sources, with notification of the service interval and in case of defects in the UV-C sources.
